Kashi GoLean (30 grams), Wheat Chex (38 grams), and Life Cereal (25 grams) aren't big winners in this category, even if they are delicious. When it comes to the whole grain market, the best bets are cereals with nuts and fruits in them. Made them tonight. I thought I messed them up since they looked eggy but really they turned out great. I can’t do gluten so I tried the xanthum and I also added some garlic powder to the mix for taste.i think I cooked for 7 minutes total.we actually sliced them into little squares and threw them into homemade chicken noodle soup. It tasted close to dumpling style noodles. Not slick/chewy but very good. My 14 year old T1 loved them and wants me to make more. Overall it absolutely loved these. I’m afraid there won’t be a straight substitution ratio because they behave a little differently. Not as different as coconut flour vs almond flour, but flaxseed nonetheless will have a different protein/fat/water ratio so will act in cakes and baking in a unique way. Saying that I love experimenting. I would begin by using a lower amount of the flaxseed to whichever recipe you decide to try, then mix and see what the result is. It may be that you need some extra liquid, an extra egg or a little more flaxseed. Sorry, that’s probably not the easy answer, but in the long run, if you get to really know how these new flours world – bam – you’re away!

I made this bread several times now using ground flaxseed in place of the psyllium powder and it came out perfect every time. I decided to try it as a sweet bread and added 1/2 cup raisins, 1 Tbsp. cinnamon, 1/4 cup erythritol and 2 Tbsp. Splenda. After it was done I iced it with 1/2 cup powdered sugar mixed with enough milk (about 1 Tbsp. to keep it thick but a little runny. Now I have a healthy, delicious, loaf of cinnamon raisin bread. New to low carb eating, My first attempt actually turned out really well. Baked 70mins. came out a little under, no color change from psyllium, lots of little air pockets ,but still firm and a little dense. Held up well to firm butter and refrigerated almond butter. I really appreciate this article. I have done low Carb for the most part for over 15 years and was able to keep my weight down. Now that I have gone through menopause is just keeps getting harder. I try doing keto but tend to fall off the wagon a lot and go back to low Carb or Weight Watchers. Simple ideas would be great. I think some keto bloggers make it seem that you have to create difficult recipes. Thanks for all you do.

Buying your food at bulk (specifically from wholesalers) can reduce the cost per pound tremendously. Plus, you can make ahead food (bulk cook chicken thighs for pre-made meat, or cook entire meals) that are used as leftovers, so you spend less time cooking.

OMG! I can’t take it anymore! This recipe only works with Gluten. Marye says you cannot substitute anything for the gluten. If you do, then you are not making Marye’s recipe. If you are celiac, search for a different recipe because this one has gluten as an ingredient and you cannot have any gluten. Nobody is forcing any of you to cook this recipe. If you do not want to use gluten, look elsewhere. This clearly isn’t the recipe for you.

When combining almond flour and coconut flour together, the best ratio is 3:1 almond flour to coconut flour. By combining these low-carb flours, you can closely mirror all-purpose flour without the need for additional eggs. Just make sure that you keep the liquid ingredients at the same ratio suggested for coconut flour, as it will still need the extra moisture.

I would very much like to hear more about carb restriction excluding the discussion on processed meats and processed high salt content foods because I consume neither. Baking with coconut flour is a little tricky since it absorbs a lot of water. For every 1 cup of coconut flour, you'll need to add 1 cup of water and six eggs. Substitute 1/4 to 1/3 cups of coconut flour for every 1 cup of all-purpose flour. Another option is a blend of 3 parts almond flour to 1 part coconut flour. Maintaining a healthy weight has never been easy for me. I’ve struggled with sugar addiction and weight gain since I was a teen. Now with keto, I’m hoping to change my body even more. I may not lose “pounds” but just seeing these results shows the scale number is just one measurement and to me the body fat number is more important.

Want perfectly uniform mini burger patties? Try using a lid from a small jar, or a cookie cutter, as a form for your ground beef. You’ll have to find one that is the right size (slightly larger than you want the burger to be once it is cooked) but once you have it you’re good to go. Line the lid with plastic wrap to keep the ground beef from sticking inside of it!
Hello there. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I am sooo excited to try it. In fact, I have just ordered some almond flour. I have a question regarding eggs. The recipe calls for four. Can I use two instead, and substitute with flax eggs for the other two? I have a lot of flax in my cupboard and I am looking for creative ways to use it up. Also, it is nice to be able to utilise ingredients already in my cupboard. I am trying to get out of the habit of buying new ingredients for everything new recipe I want to try.
